People were still wandering around, so I figured I probably shouldn't actually take pictures of the toilets. So, assuming someone can actually see this (as I can't, while writing this; photobucket is evil), you can see the toilet slippers (and they're TINY). The closest stall is the Wa-fuu (Japanese-style/squat toilet from HELL), and the second, by the wall, is the normal Western-style.

I discovered today that it's only within Nagoya that garbage is completely evil; outside, like in Inuyama, the plastic bottles are separated but nothing else. These garbage cans are directly to the left when I come down the stairs.

Assuming I'm still standing at the bottom of the stairs, and take a few steps down the hall, this is what I see on my left. The locker-like things on the left are shoe boxes (where you put your slippers when you leave and your shoes when you come back). The tile area is where shoes are allowed, and carpet is where they're not. The slipper cabinet on the right (under a plant) is for guests. The door to leave is also on the right (straight ahead are windows and an umbrella stand).

My shoe box. Normally, my indoor slippers should be on the top, but I wore my Ugg clogs today, so they're in there upside-down. My sneakers are underneath.

I think I lost a picture somewhere...anyway, you continue down the hall (which is in the picture I think I lost), go through a glass sliding door, and this is what you see on your left. The screened area on the left is where I get my food, the metal area in the corner is where I get rid of most of what I'm served, and the tables under the windows are where the rice, miso, and hot (green) tea are (if it's dinnertime, anyway).

(this is another that doesn't want to show up, so...uh...I hope this is what you'll see.) This is the common room, I guess. Observe the vending machine (brown swirl cans in the middle row are hot chocolate!); where you see a red line, it's hot stuff, and the blue line is cold (the top row). There's also a TV (which Julie is watching). This is where we eat, probably because we can see the TV.

Continuing down the "hallway," there's another glass door on the other side of the food area. Going through there, this is on the right at the end (on the left is the bath, and since I have neither gone in there before, and don't think it'd be polite to take pictures anyway, you don't get to see it). The bowl on the lower left is one of the hair-washing sinks. Here you can see the 4 washers, and one dryer (up above). The door on the left is one of the doors to a shower, left open so people know it's not occupied.

Um, like the title says; looking into the shower (from the laundry area). There's a little area where you put your clothes, and lock the outside door. The shower itself is further in.

This is the lower part of one of the showers. You can see the faucet (metal stuff), drain (ew, hair), shelf, and the shower head. Up above, there's another place to latch the head; it's where it is at the moment so the next person can set the water temperature (and not totally scald/freeze themselves).

On the right is the door. On the left, there's a cabinet high up, then lower down (but I don't use it, except to hold batteries/detergent). Below that is a scary open space (presumably for luggage, but it has my other shoes, and the overnight bag is sitting on a wooden ledge-box thing) with an outlet (my phone is being charged, so that's what the cord is). There's also a pole for hangers on the open side. I'm not sure why, but right inside the door is tiled and lower; I'm thinking it's for slippers, and you just walk around the room in your socks/bare feet.

The other wall has nothing on it. There are 3 hooks, and I hung my stuff on it. The blue circle on the left, with clothespins (holding my gloves), is for air-drying bras. The bookcase is on the left. My scarves are hanging off the bungee cord between 2 of the hooks. That bag is my replacement purse.

Looking out the right side of the balcony. I don't know what that screen is for. The loop at the top has a string tied to another loop on the left side, presumably for laundry. Most people here don't use dryers; the washers in the dorm are free, but the dryer costs 100 yen for 30 minutes. I could've taken one straight ahead into the next building, so you could see how people do laundry, but I didn't.

Probably spelled that wrong, but whatever. I don't technically have a window in my room; I have a sliding glass door. It also happens to have this little thing above the side that doesn't move. Convenient.

Sign says "Ushida Biru," just another way to say Ushida Building. "Biru" is an abbreviation for building, like "conbini" is convenience store. Julie's opening the door; this is the real entrance to the dorm.

We don't have to deal with this entire hill (the hill in 2 starts just after the higher stone walls on the right). For height comparison purposes, the top of the first hill is about even with the top floor of the building on the left (5 floors). Leaving, I'd be walking up this hill to where I'm standing to take the picture. Julie's not halfway to the other hill.

The top of this hill is where I was when I took the first picture. I'm at the bottom of this one, or pretty close to it (maybe a few steps up so I don't get run over). So to leave, I walk down this hill to the bottom.

I took this on the way back the day I moved in, so that's why Julie's always wherever she is. You can sort of see the gate for the dorm, and it's the pink building on the left a little bit further down the "hill." I don't know what you'd call this, because it's more than a mere hill. I walked the whole way up this thing (to the dorm) when we got out of the taxi, carrying the full backpack, purse, and overnight bag. Ouch.
